As the parent of a gifted person, I can say these are valuable comments. I'll add one more: Listen to your child. Gifted children often have a different way of thinking and learning. I am a very linear learner (and most teachers teach that way) but my son has visual-spatial tendencies. Starting early to have real conversations with them not only builds their oral language and vocabulary skills but lets you in on who they are and what they are thinking. Remember that you are your child's first and forever advocate but that doesn't give you the right to be a "high-and-mighty" know-it-all. Communicate, not to be right, but to be focused on your child.

Thank you for tapping so many sources to present such sound advice. Educators want to build relationships with their students' parents - we need a partnership for kids to get the most out of their educational experience. It's mutually beneficial for teachers and parents to work together.
